Al-Mu’tasim al-Abbāsi said to Imām Ahmad Ibn Hanbal رحمه الله: Speak to Ibn Abi Dūwād, so Imām Ahmad turned his face away from him and said: How can I speak to someone whom I have never seen at the door of a scholar?
[Al-Silah by Ibn Bashkwal 1/216]
Lesson:
He who is not known for his knowledge, nor for taking knowledge from the Ulemā (scholars), if he argues with you about something, turn away from him, because he is not one of the people of knowledge, and he who has nothing cannot give anything.
