A short biography of Imām al-Kenāni رحمه الله from the Salaf.
His name was:
عبد العزيز بن يحيى الكناني المكي
Abdul-Azīz Ibn Yahyā al-Kenāni al-Makki.
And he died in 240 AH. رحمه الله
He was from the students of Imām as-Shafi’i.
He famously traveled to Baghdād, Irāq and debated in the court of Ma’mūn and refuted the Jahmiyyah Nufāt. He was victorious against Bishr al-Marrīsi the successor of Jahm Ibn Safwān.
His famous debate in the court of Ma’mūn has been published into a book:
