Taqleed (Blind Following) Is Not Permissible – By Shaykh Ibn Bāz رحمه الله

Question:
Can I choose one of the four famous Imāms, for example, to follow his methodology without following the others, and to read his works to apply them?

Shaykh Ibn Bāz رحمه الله:
You should not blindly follow just one (Imām) unrestrictedly. Rather, you should consult the people of knowledge (scholars) about what confuses you. Taqleed (blind following) is not permissible; rather it is obligatory upon a student of knowledge to look at the evidence in the Shari’ah and choose what is required by the evidence, whether it agrees with the opinions of the four Imāms or not.

If someone is a layperson, he should not blindly follow anyone, but he should ask the scholars of his time, those who are knowledgeable about the Sunnah, and those with insight. He should ask them about what confuses him and act upon their Fatwa, as the layperson doesn’t know how to distinguish between the correct and incorrect statements of scholars, nor do they know the truth from falsehood. Therefore, the layperson needs someone to guide him to the truth and direct him from among the scholars of the Sunnah. Yes.

حكم تقليد عالم من العلماء مطلقًا كأحد الأئمة الأربعة

السؤال:
هل يمكن أن أختار أحد العلماء الأربعة مثلًا المشهورين لكي أعمل على طريقتهم دون الآخرين، وأقرأ له لكي أتمكن من التطبيق فعلًا؟

الجواب:
ليس لك أن تقلد واحدًا مطلقًا، بل عليك أن تسأل أهل العلم عما أشكل عليك، والتقليد لا يجوز، بل يجب على طالب العلم أن ينظر في الأدلة الشرعية، ويختار ما تقتضيه الأدلة، سواء وافق الأئمة الأربعة، أو لم يوافقهم.

وإذا كان عاميًا؛ فإنه لا يقلد أحدًا من هؤلاء، بل يسأل أهل العلم في زمانه، أهل العلم بالسنة، أهل البصيرة، يسألهم عما أشكل عليه، ويعمل بما يفتى به؛ لأن مثله لا يعرف يميز بين الصحيح والسقيم من أقوال العلماء، لا يعرف الحق من الباطل، فالعامي يحتاج إلى من يقوده إلى الحق، ويدله عليه من علماء السنة، نعم.
